Resource Assessment Tools

This area of the NRCS New York Technical Resources Web site provides links to software tools that model erosion rates (RUSLE2), evaluate the potential for pesticides to move with water and sediment from rainfall events (WinPST), and allocate livestock wastes, with a spreading schedule, that is based on crop nutrient requirements and water quality protection (Cornell Cropware).

  • Energy Conservation
Farmers and ranchers can cut input costs, maintain production, protect soil and water resources, reduce the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels, and save money by using the conservation practices described on this Web site.

  • Pest Management
USDA NRCS Water Quality and Quantity Conservation web site.

  • Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE2)
The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation is a computer model containing both empirical and process-based science that predicts rill and interrill erosion by rainfall and runoff.

  • Windows Pesticide Screening Tool (WinPST)
WIN-PST 3.0 is a pesticide environmental risk screening tool that NRCS field office conservationists, extension agents, crop consultants, pesticide dealers and producers can use to evaluate the potential for pesticides to move with water and eroded soil/organic matter and affect non-target organisms.
