Electronic Surveying Training

An Electronic Surveying training team is available to New York NRCS and Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) staff to provide various levels of training in the field of electronic surveying. At present, four levels of training are provided on the Total Station instrument.

Training by one or more members of the team can be arranged by issuing a request to the appropriate line officer, or to the State Conservation Engineer. The State Conservation Engineer will forward the training requests to the State CADD Coordinator for action.

Training is targeted at Engineers, Technicians, District Conservationists, and Soil Conservationists, who are involved with the survey, design, and construction of conservation practices. Training will be conducted in the field and will use a mentoring format.

When making a request for training, please keep in mind:

  • Requests for training should be made a minimum of (4) weeks prior to the desired date for training. This will provide time for the trainer(s) to fit the session into their schedule.
     

  • One rod person must be provided for each Total Station trainee. No more than two trainees will be assigned to a trainer. A training session may utilize more than one trainer.
     

  • Unless prior arrangements are made with the trainer, the trainee(s) are responsible for providing all Electronic Surveying equipment and related equipment for the session (radios, stakes, etc.)
