NRCS New York Holds Local Work Group Meetings Across the State

Syracuse, New York, January 13, 2012 - The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) gives notice that it will hold its Local Working Group meetings across New York State in January. These local working groups are subcommittees of the USDA-NRCS State Technical Committee. Local working groups provide recommendations to New York NRCS on local natural resource priorities and criteria for Farm Bill conservation activities and programs. These meetings are open to the public.

Local working groups focus on agricultural and natural resource issues existing in their community. Members can be agricultural producers; owners of nonindustrial private forest land; representatives of agricultural and environmental organizations; and representatives of governmental agencies carrying out environmental, agricultural, or natural resource conservation programs and activities.

For general information about NRCS,  visit the NRCS New York Web site. For information about joining the State Technical Committee, call Assistant State Conservationist for Programs, Tammy Willis at 315-477-6503. To join your local conservation working group, visit your county USDA Service Center.
